Compass Group has agreed a five-year contract with Bunzl that will see it source catering equipment and other non-food items from the distribution company.
With sales of almost £2 billion a year, Compass is the UK’s largest caterer and it will use the relationship to implement a number of major change programmes around the way it purchases equipment, including the introduction of new benefits at site-level.
Compass said the tie-up aims to deliver category insight, product and service innovation alongside the consolidation of multiple product categories, simplifying the process for its sites when ordering equipment and other non-food products.
Bunzl’s expertise in a wide range of non-food categories, including disposables, light catering equipment, personal protection equipment as well as kitchen and design projects, will enable Compass to ensure its on-site teams across the country are adequately serviced.
In addition, Bunzl will use its national distribution network to improve the delivery process for both suppliers and Compass sites.
As part of the contract, Compass will be working with Bunzl Lockhart and Bunzl Catering Supplies.
Oliver Cock, managing director of Foodbuy, which is part of Compass Group & Ireland, said: “We’ll be working with Bunzl to implement a number of major change programmes in the non-food category throughout the year whilst introducing some exciting benefits at site-level. We have started to build a strong working relationship with Bunzl already and we look forward to working with them over the coming years.”
Matt Johnson, managing director for Bunzl’s catering and hospitality division, added: “Through six months of the evaluation process we have established an extremely strong working relationship with Compass at all levels of their organisation. We are delighted with this new partnership and look forward to supplying product innovation and a first class service to Compass as we do for our existing customers.”
