D&D takes first bite out of the Big Apple as its restaurant empire expands

Restaurant group D&D London is planning to launch its first site in the US after confirming that it is importing its Bluebird brand to the States.

Bluebird London in New York will open in an impressive 10,400-square-foot space on the 3rd floor of Time Warner Centre in Manhattan next month.

It will encompass the buzz and familiar charm of the original Bluebird Chelsea and bring an all-day drinking and dining destination to Midtown Manhattan.

The new 100-cover restaurant is designed by CetraRuddy, the team behind Sushisamba in London and D&D’s highly successful 20 Stories in Manchester.

A celebration of Modern dining in London and New York but with its firmly British roots, Bluebird London will create an international brasserie reflective of its two transatlantic homes.

Helmed by executive chef Nicolas Houlbert, Bluebird’s menu will change with the seasons, with most food sourced from local and independent producers.

Chairman and chief executive, Des Gunewardena, said: “We are all incredibly excited about bringing Bluebird to New York – we could not have picked a more prime location. Bluebird is quintessentially British, celebrated for its buzz, glamour and food in London, and we are thrilled to be bringing this to New York City.”

The launch of Bluebird Time Warner in New York will be followed by a second D&D London restaurant in the city’s Hudson Yards development, opening in 2019.
