Metcalfe’s Food Company, the outfit set up by itsu and Pret A Manger founder Julian Metcalfe, has announced plans to de-merge and restructure its business.
From June 1, the organisation will split to form itsu [grocery] Ltd and Metcalfe’s skinny Ltd. The company said the move represents an “incredibly important step forward” and has been implemented to better support the fast growth of both brands by creating the dedicated structure and resource that they now require.
Food entrepreneur Julian Metcalfe (pictured right) originally founded the holding group back in 2009 so he could sell popcorn and healthier snacks to his itsu and Pret A Manger shops.
Robert Jakobi (pictured left) joined as managing director in 2010 and six years later it claims to be the fastest-growing privately-owned food and drink company in the UK, selling its products into major supermarket chains and selected retailers abroad.
The two companies will launch under the leadership of two new managing directors appointed from within the business and both teams will increase the number of staff by over a third.
Julian Metcalfe said: “It is true testament to our incredibly passionate team that this demerger has happened as fast as has.”
