Winnow Solutions, a provider of food waste metres for commercial kitchens, has strengthened its board with the appointment of Alan Parker, the former CEO of Whitbread.
Winnow, which aims to help operators reduce food waste by digitally tracking and measuring it through ‘bin smart metres’, will call on Parker’s 30 years’ experience of the industry to move its business forward in the UK and abroad.
As well as joining Winnow’s board of directors, Parker will take a minority stake in the business.
He said: “Food waste costs the hospitality sector over £2.5 billion per year. I believe that the Winnow System is a perfect solution to this problem, helping operators dramatically reduce costs whilst at the same time progressing the sustainability agenda. I am delighted to be joining Winnow’s board, and look forward to helping the business grow in the UK and beyond.”
Marc Zornes, co-founder of Winnow, added: “We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Alan Parker on our board. Our smart meter has been deployed in over 100 sites in the UK and having reached £1 m in annualised savings from reduced food purchasing costs, we have proven that the Winnow system can be implemented at scale to deliver significant savings across the hospitality sector.”
Winnows claims that its clients have seen gross margin improvements by 2% to 6% after implementing its system. On its larger sites, where it has worked for more than six months, it has reduced food waste by value by 65% on average.”
Parker served as the CEO of Whitbread from 2004 to 2010.
