Fast food chain serves up £500 gold-laced pizza

It’s a bit too early for April fool’s just yet, but a British fast-food pizza chain insists it isn’t joking after adding a £500 ‘Gold’ pizza to its menu.

Pizza GoGo, which has more than 100 sites in the south of England, says the pizza contains a number of ‘exclusive’ ingredients, including 23 carat gold flakes, white truffle oil, caviar, lobster and fantail prawns.

The price also includes ‘red carpet delivery’ and butler service of the pizza at the customer’s home.

Punters won’t just be able to pop in to their local store and order one, however. According to the chain, the pizza must be ordered at least three days in advance, and only by ringing the company’s head office in Essex.

Ironically, the company said the deal doesn’t include a stuffed crust – that will cost customers a further £2, although we doubt it will prove to be a deal-breaker.

Pizza GoGo has been promoting the £500 pizza from this month, although it is not clear if it has had any takers. A typical pizza from the chain costs around £10.95.

The chain opened its first store in 1987. Today it is a franchise operation with a number of company-owned units.
