Fear of not staying relevant spurs TRG to rework menus

The Restaurant Group (TRG) is getting to work in its development kitchens after revealing that one of its core business priorities this year is making sure its menus “stay relevant”.

The group, which owns chains such as Frankie & Benny’s during and Chiquito, insists the evolution of its offering is required to ensure it reflects the changing tastes of UK consumers.

“These developments include a new breakfast menu in Frankie & Benny’s, introduction of a street food section on the Chiquito menu and a new menu in Coast to Coast including some fresher and lighter options,” it said.

The menu evolution builds on the work undertaken in Frankie & Benny’s during 2015. It launched a new menu during the year that included some rationalisation to reduce the total number of items, while at the same time introducing a greater element of freshness.

Breakfast continues to be a growing and successful part of the business and further improvements to this are being introduced over the coming 12 months.

TRG currently operates 500 restaurants around the UK, but management are confident it can expand the group to in excess of 850, all financed out of internally-generated cash flow.

Turnover at the firm was up 8% last year to £685m as it made pre-tax profits of £87m.
