The winner of the Outstanding Service to the Industry Award is Steve Mangleshot, executive chef of Wagamama.
The recipient of this richly deserved award has truly played his part in changing the way that the British public eats.
He has been at the forefront of his company’s kitchen and food development strategy for the best part of two decades and is responsible for ensuring food consistency across all its branches – so much so that it’s been said he eats in the company’s restaurants up to 10 times a week.
It is no coincidence that the chain in question has become one of the most iconic names on the high street and Mr Mangleshot has been there every step of the way as it has grown its portfolio to 130 UK restaurants and laid the foundations for a global expansion drive. If the business continues on its current form it will achieve sales of £300m within the next two years.
A hugely respected figure both within his organisation and outside of it, Mr Mangleshot, along with his close-knit team, has played a major part in the business getting to where it is today.
He is renowned for his attention to detail, his passion for trialling new flavour combinations and dishes, and his understanding of what it takes to keep customers returning for more.
Mr Mangleshot (pictured receiving his award from FEJ editor Andrew Seymour) said: “I didn’t expect this award and I’m humbled, it means a lot. Credit has to go to the great team around me – we do what we love. We like to constantly think of new ideas.”
