A former director of casual restaurant chain Pizza Hut has swapped the operator side for the supplier side by joining up with a national catering equipment distributor.
David Thompson, who held the position of regional director at Pizza Hut, where he oversaw 95 branded restaurants, has joined Advance Group as sales director. He will also become a member of the board.
Bedfordshire-based Advance said his appointment continues its strategy of being “a business run by operators for operators”.
Thompson will have responsibility for leading a team to deliver the annual sales budget and growth in-line with the company’s strategy, together with the management of key customer accounts to build sustainable and productive long-term relationships.
At Pizza Hut he was responsible for the full P&L of the restaurants he ran, together with the development and implementation of the business strategy.
He was involved in a major brand transformation programme during his time with the chain, and delivered 17% EBITDA growth and growth of up to 38% from investments.
He said: “I’m extremely excited to be joining the board at Advance Group, as the business continues on its pioneering path to roll out a series of new products and services to hospitality operators throughout 2016. I’m especially looking forward to taking my knowledge and expertise as an operator into a supplier business, to deliver maximum efficiency, quality and profitability for operators.”
Darryl Pannell, commercial director of Advance Group, added: “David has spent the majority of his career working in the hospitality industry, with leading brands such as Pizza Hut and Whitbread. Advance continues to be a business run by operators for operators. David’s appointment comes at a time of major growth for the business as we continue on our mission to innovate with the use of intelligent technology to deliver our 2020 business plan.”
