Independent brand Ambiente Tapas is expanding with a flagship business in Hull, which its owner has described as a “sleeping giant” of potential for operators.
The brand is already established in York and Leeds and will launch a site at the Fruit Market waterside district, which will be central to Hull’s UK City of Culture events next year.
Owner Tim Sinclair considered other locations but opted for Hull, telling Insider Media: “Hull is a massive market that is under-served by high-quality restaurants with many people choosing to go to places like Leeds and York for a distinctive dining experience.”
Sinclair’s brand is the result of a £300,000 investment to convert a former warehouse on the site and is the largest independent operator to have been established from the £80m regeneration of the Fruit Market.
The regeneration is aimed at attracting independent operators and it is hoped Hull’s status as the UK City of Culture next year will bring new restaurants to the city.
