The Jamie Oliver Restaurant Group has inked a deal that will see the SSP Group run restaurants on its behalf in a string of European airports.
SSP will operate Jamie’s Italian sites in France, Germany, Switzerland and Holland. The first two restaurants are scheduled to open at Terminal 2 of Nice Airport in 2017.
Simon Blagden, CEO of Jamie’s Italian, said it was delighted to have agreed a contract with the travel sector specialist.
“As F&B operators in the travel sector they are held in very high regard and we have found their team to be an accomplished partner to work with. We believe Jamie’s Italian will appeal to all passenger groups and we’re now looking forward to working towards our first opening in Nice.”
The first Jamie’s Italian opened in the UK in 2008, and the restaurant brand is now present in countries such as Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. It currently operates 35 restaurants across the UK.
Kate Swann, CEO of SSP, says the partnership fits with its policy of working with the leading brands in the market. “Jamie Oliver’s reputation is outstanding, and we are delighted to be able to bring the hugely successful Jamie’s Italian brand to our clients and customers,” she said.
The Jamie’s Italian at Nice airport is set to be designed around three distinct zones: a table-service restaurant, a bar and a ‘grab and go’ area. There will also be a coffee offer landside.
SSP operates branded food and beverage outlets in travel locations across 29 countries. It is present in 125 airports and more than 270 rail stations around the globe.
