Lakes Catering Maintenance is king of the kitchen after unprecedented year

The past year is certainly one that Lakes Catering Maintenance (LCM) director Leigh Howard will never forget.

When much of the Lake District flooded last winter, the distributor was inundated with project and repair orders to help get many restaurants and hotels back on their feet. “I have never had a year like it,” he remarks. “All the work came at once.”

Being busy is no bad thing and, if the sudden spike in work proved anything, it’s that the company’s expertise in kitchen design, fit-out and service is an asset for any hospitality business that needs support for their catering facilities. Service has traditionally accounted for 70% of LCM’s business, but with installation and project work increasing, the split between the two sides of the business is almost equal now.

After being a joint director for the last five years, Howard is now approaching 12 months since buying out the previous directors and during this time the firm has taken strides to grow its design and installation abilities, while maintaining service levels. Good relationships with a range of suppliers, including Charvet, Lincat, Blue Seal, Interlevin and Adande means it can offer solutions for all budgets and requirements.

A major rebrand of the business is designed to lay the foundations for the next stage of its growth. “We’re in our 15th year of trading and wanted to modernise the brand and celebrate the progress, so it felt like good timing,” explains Howard. “Having worked in the industry for over 25 years, to finally fully own the business it felt right to put my own mark on it and move forward with a new look that still reflects the strong service values that LCM was built on.”

A new logo has been created to represent the professionalism of the team, its experience in the market and the breadth of its services, from reactive repairs to large multi-vendor projects.

“We’re almost there with the completion of the rebrand, with the final touches due to the website this month,” says Howard. “We’ve made improvements there as well, which will offer the facility for our customers to choose how they interact with us, by giving them the option to buy online.”

The rest of the year is shaping up to be an exciting one for the business as it looks to grow its engineering base, enhance its 3D kitchen design capabilities and deliver the end-to-end experience that customers today want.
