Carluccio’s has launched a new restaurant in York – and marked the occasion by using it to host founder Antonio Carluccio’s 80th birthday party.
The ‘godfather’ of Italian cooking was joined by local foodies for the VIP restaurant opening and birthday party on Friday night.
Competition winners, writers and digital influencers also attended, along with Jonathan Tyler, The Sheriff of York, and Dave Taylor, The Lord Mayor of York.
Carluccio’s newest venue is at St Helen’s Square, previously the historic Terry’s Chocolate Shop and Tea Room.
Visitors were greeted at the door with a Chocolate Orange Negroni cocktail specially created for the new restaurant, paying homage to the building’s unique history.
In honour of his birthday, the Carluccio’s team presented Antonio with a stunning chocolate cake, crafted by award-winning bakery, The Bread Factory.
The legendary chef followed up the celebrations by hosting an open book signing of his latest book ‘Vegetables’ at the restaurant on Saturday morning.
Vegetables contains 120 recipes and hints and tips on how to buy and prepare 100 different types of vegetables, along with guidance on pairing with meat and fish
