UK distribution and outsourcing giant Bunzl has expanded its global catering equipment business with the acquisition of two dealers in Australia.
The company, which owns Lockhart Catering Equipment in the UK, has purchased the business and assets of Cater Plus, trading as Bidvest Hospitality Supplies, based in Adelaide, and of Delta Hospitality, based in Brisbane.
Both organisations are engaged in the supply of catering consumables and equipment to a variety of end-user customers including restaurants, bars, contract caterers, hotels and hospitals.
In the year ended 30 June 2015, Bidvest Hospitality Supplies turned over AUD9.8m (£4.5m) while Delta Hospitality Supplies achieved sales of AUD10.8m (£5m).
Michael Roney, chief executive of Bunzl, said: “The purchase of Bidvest Hospitality Supplies and Delta Hospitality Supplies has created additional scale and capability in our Australian catering consumables and equipment operations as we continue to build our national footprint in this sector.”
The news comes as Bunzl reported that half-year sales to the end of June grew 7% year-on-year to £3.1 billion, while pre-tax profits climbed 6% to £187m.
Bunzl has spent £241m on acquisitions over the past six months, buying up 14 businesses and entering the Austrian and Turkish markets in the process.
Roney said there had been an “excellent” level of acquisition activity so far this year, and vowed that there is more to come. “With a promising pipeline of opportunities and ongoing discussions taking place, we expect to complete a number of additional acquisitions during the rest of the year,” he said.
