Pub group Marston’s has not been put off by concerns about the economy after confirming yesterday that it is committed to opening more than 20 new sites in 2017.
It said that it plans to launch “at least” 22 pubs and bars and a further five lodges, with the openings programme weighted towards the second half of the year.
“We continue to have a good pipeline of sites to maintain similar levels of expansion for the foreseeable future,” said CEO Ralph Findlay.
The rate of expansion matches what it has achieved over the past 12 months, during which it has launched 22 sites and six lodges.
Marston’s said yesterday that it had made “good progress” this year, with underlying profit before tax for the year to October 1 in line with management expectations.
In its Destination and Premium businesses, sales grew 2% while food sales growth also improved 2%. The company also saw 3% growth in its Taverns division and 2% in leased.
“Trading has continued at similar levels since the year end, which is encouraging,” added Findlay. “In addition, our new pub-restaurants, lodges and Revere premium pubs all continue to perform.”
Marston’s operates 1,560 pubs in the UK, comprising managed, franchised and leased units.
