Work began on site in late 2015. Once complete, the extension will comprise of up to 16 shops, 10 restaurants and a nine-screen IMAX cinema, making intu Watford a premium London satellite destination, with a total 1.4 million sq. ft. of space.
Intu will also be investing in a mall refreshment of the existing centre and car parks to complement the development.
Rebecca Ryman, regional director of intu, said: “Our exciting new development will be a significant addition to intu Watford. The fantastic choice of shops and places to eat will provide compelling experiences that will encourage shoppers to visit more often and stay for longer. We are looking forward to the completion of the building work so that intu Watford can consolidate its rightful place as one of the country’s best retail destinations.”
Intu Watford, which is easily accessible from the M1 and M25 motorways as well as national rail and London Underground stations, already attracts a higher than average ABC1 profile (85% of the 15 million annual footfall is ABC1). The extension is predicted by CACI to promote Watford to the top 20 of its national retail destination ranking, alongside Edinburgh and Bristol.
