Nisbets’ growing retail empire will extend to Ireland later this year after the company agreed terms on its first shopping centre site in Dublin.
Nisbets will take on a 5,554 square foot site at the Ilac Centre following the redevelopment of the Centre’s Moore Mall South. The catering equipment firm will occupy one of five new units that have been created as a result of the work.
The redevelopment, which involves an investment of €1.5m (£1.3m), will be completed by summer 2017 and forms part of the owners’ wider plans to improve the tenant mix at the centre.
Nisbets has an Irish website and a warehouse and office in Cork, but this is understood to be the first time it has opened a retails showroom in the country. The Ilac Centre drew in 17.8 million visits last year, giving Nisbets’ access to huge footfall as well as Dublin’s restaurant trade.
The centre is adjacent to Henry Street, Ireland’s busiest shopping street and is home to 85 retail and catering units.
Simon Betty, director of retail, Ireland at developer Hammerson’s, said: “The centre is well located in the centre of Dublin, benefitting from high footfall and sales, and through this refurbishment and other asset management initiatives we will ensure that the centre continues to offer our customers the right mix of retail and food and beverage.”
Nisbets continues to strengthen its retail portfolio. Before Christmas it opened a store in Kingston upon Thames, the 23rd in its collection and the eighth last year.
Its stores typically hold up to 3,000 products, but customers have access to its full portfolio of 20,000 items of equipment.
