Interlevin Refrigeration, one of the UK’s largest and longest-serving suppliers of refrigeration equipment, has been acquired by Danish refrigeration firm Tefcold Group, FEJ has learned.
The takeover was formally completed last month and gives Tefcold direct access to the UK market. Interlevin specialises in the wholesale distribution, repair and maintenance of refrigeration, and has been trading for more than 50 years.
It employs 38 staff at its headquarters in Castle Donington, Leicestershire, and sells approximately 40,000 plug-in cooling units per year, as well as Fagor warewashers, hot buffet displays and ice makers.
In total it offers more than 850 commercial refrigeration and catering products. The company posted a £2.3m profit on sales of £21.9m in its last full financial year.
Interlevin and Tefcold have worked together for almost 30 years, so both have a clear understanding of each other’s business culture.
“After having run the company successfully for many years we are happy to pass the ball over to Tefcold to take the company into the future,” said Dennis Hart, CEO of Interlevin. “We cannot think of a better owner for Interlevin, its employees and customers, than Tefcold. We share many values and have similar business models.”
Tefcold ships more than 100,000 units a year from its three warehouses in Europe and direct from factories. Its owner, Torben Christensen, said the acquisition will help it increase its supplier base and logistical set-up in Europe to give its customers an even better service.
“Acquiring Interlevin is an important part of our growth ambition,” he commented. “The acquisition brings us closer to our customers, increases our already broad group of products and provides the group with a number of excellent employees.”
Interlevin said it would be “business as usual” moving forward, although longer term Tefcold is planning to integrate IT systems, product development and logistics. Sales and customer management will be kept separate, however.
