Panasonic insists innovation, smart working and lateral thinking are key drivers of success in the catering industry after being unveiled as a category sponsor for the forthcoming 2018 FEJ Awards.
The commercial microwave specialist is endorsing the ‘Executive Chef of the Year’ category, which seeks to honour the individuals that have excelled in their posts as head of group kitchen operations over the past year.
Iain Philips, sales and marketing manager at Panasonic, said: “There are many awards in the hospitality industry that recognise the good work and achievements of individuals and companies, whether for the service they provide, the food they produce or personal accomplishments. The FEJ Awards will celebrate the equipment side of the business as this aspect is often overlooked, yet is an important aspect of running a catering operation.”
Whether it is restaurants, pubs, care homes, contract caterers or any other professional foodservice business, the group executive chef has one of the most important roles to play when it comes to what happens on a kitchen level. From creative menu development and food sourcing to kitchen specification and roll-outs, their decisions have a significant bearing on company success and profitability.
This year marks 100 years since Panasonic was founded and its ongoing focus on innovation makes sponsoring the Executive Chef of the Year category a perfect fit given the best culinary minds are known for their ability to evolve, adapt and enhance.
“Our founder, Konosuke Matsushita, laid down seven business principles, which are still adhered to today,” explained Mr Phillips. “Two of those principles are, ‘Untiring effort for improvement’ and ‘Adaptability’. These values may have been written over 70 years ago, but they still run through the core of our business, which is why it was apparent to us that the Executive Chef category was the one for us to sponsor. I believe our industry must innovate, work smarter and think better. Panasonic is proud to sponsor this category to encourage and recognise the efforts of others.”
The FEJ Awards take place on the first evening of the Commercial Kitchen show, during which Panasonic plans to launch an all-new microwave oven.
“It is a global first and completely changes the rules on microwaving food, mechanically and physically, and we hope also from a perception point of view, too,” said Mr Phillips. “The show has proven to be a great platform for new product launches – it’s our third launch in three years at CK – and we are very much looking forward to showing customers, both current and future, this exciting, new technology.”
Shortlisted finalists for all award categories will be officially announced online soon.
