POWER LIST 2017, MARKET MOVERS: Adele Ashley, founder, Filmore & Union

Filmore & Union

Adele Ashley has taken Filmore & Union from a single site in York to 14 locations in the space of just five years and built up a reputation for offering a menu of fresh, seasonal food.

The chain now runs restaurants throughout Yorkshire as well as food-to-go delis in Newcastle and York train stations, with more on the way. Adele Ashley portrait

Adele recently secured a £3.5m capital injection from investment fund BGF to accelerate new site roll-outs, some of which will inevitably be used to equip the sites with the kit that is needed to deliver success.

“We believe there is a very clear market opportunity to expand the Filmore & Union portfolio,” she says. “We have built a loyal customer base who feel an affinity to the brand and share our passion for eating well.”

Filmore & Union now generates sales of £6m a year and with its sights set firmly on expansion in the north of England and the Midlands, it won’t be long before it is smashing that figure.

One notable coup for Adele is that she’s now got Kevin Bacon working as the company’s non-executive chair.

He is a former managing director of Frankie & Benny’s and Jamie’s Italian and will be able to impart some valuable wisdom as the brand drives towards its goals.
