Prezzo makes a play for old Cotswolds job centre site

Italian restaurant chain Prezzo has initiated a move to open to open its first restaurant in the Gloucestershire town of Tewkesbury.

The group wants to take over a site that once belonged to a job centre as it looks to increase its presence in the south west. Its nearest stores are the two it operates in Cheltenham.

Prezzo has now begun the formal procedure of applying to Tewkesbury Borough Council for a premises licence and planning permission, according to a report by the Gloucestershire Echo.

It said the application reveals that the restaurant would open at lunchtime each day until 11pm from Monday to Thursday, 11.30pm on Friday and Saturday, and 10.30pm on Sunday. 15 full-time and five part-time positions would be created.

In its submission to the council, Prezzo’s planning agent said: “The proposal will have a positive impact on the vitality and viability of the town centre, will bring a vacant building back into viable use, will create employment and will represent a use which is entirely acceptable in this location.”

The report said the market town was increasingly becoming a place for cafes and restaurants rather than traditional shops.
