Pub group Peach has appointed its first property director as part of its plans to become a 22-strong, £35m-a-year pub business.
Simon Bishop takes the reins in the newly created role, with a remit to source and acquire new properties for the independent pub company. He will also look after property matters for Peach’s 17 existing pubs and boutique hotel.
Peach hopes Bishop’s 20 plus years of experience of buying and developing properties in the UK pub and leisure sectors will help the group to expand. Bishop has worked with several key players in the industry as well as being an independent consultant.
A chartered surveyor by background, he was previously acquisitions director for Rank Leisure, where over a five year period he advised the group on buying sites for its leisure portfolios. Before that, he spent eight years at Scottish & Newcastle Retail purchasing and developing sites for its managed pub and hotel divisions. He also worked for Whitbread in a similar role.
Peach co-founder, Hamish Stoddart, commented on the appointment: “In Simon we have found an extremely experienced pair of hands with exceptional knowledge of the pub and leisure market, whose expertise and contacts will give us the edge in finding great places we can make peachy.
“He’ll be able to open the doors to the great new pubs we’re after, and his arrival is perfectly timed; we have funding available to buy new pubs and are stepping up the pace to hit our next growth target. We want a couple of new pubs in the pipeline for early 2017 and are actively looking for more.”
Bishop is already looking for properties, whether leasehold, freehold, existing pubs or new leisure properties that Peach can take on and has a clearly defined target area.
