POWER LIST 2016, MARKET MOVERS: Rachel Chatterton, Senior Innovation Manager, Starbucks

Starbucks

When Starbucks opened a new store at Upper St. Martin’s Lane in Covent Garden earlier this year, customers would have immediately spotted something they weren’t used to seeing in its branches: a shiny open kitchen preparing a range of fresh food for breakfast, lunch and evenings.

While the coffee chain is well-known for its paninis and baked goods, the advent of a more prominent catering area is a nod to the growing role that foodservice is now playing in its offering. Rachel Chatterton, senior innovation manager, Starbucks

One of the main architects behind the design and creation of the catering component is Rachel Chatterton, who was recently promoted from R&D manager for food and beverage to senior innovation manager EMEA.

Her role involved constructing the food, wine and drinks menu for the store, identifying the key trends in these areas and understanding how the store can bring these to life in its menus and offer consumers something new.

“It is a significant step change from our traditional store format as it allows customers to see the pride our partners have in preparing food and coffee. We believe this transparency makes our food offering more attractive to customers while remaining practical for partners,” she explains.
