Rational mounts search for UK’s oldest working combi

Operators are being offered the chance to land one of Rational‘s flagship SelfCookingCenters for free if they can prove they own the oldest Rational combi in the UK.

The manufacturer, which is responsible for supplying more than one in every two combi ovens to the UK market, is bidding to uncover the oldest working combi as a way to mark their 25th year in the British market.

To be in with a chance of furnishing their kitchen with a brand new unit, operators are required to send in a picture and serial number of their existing Rational to ukmarketing@rational-online.com before 16 May. The winner will be announced at the end of May.

Operators who think their combi might be one of the oldest in the business can locate the unit’s serial number on the front side at the lower level of the control panel, the side panel on the outside or the inner door frame.

Rational UK’s subsidiary was founded in 1991 in Luton, Bedfordshire. At the time there were two regional sales managers, one chef and a handful of support staff, while all orders were procssed manually as the company didn’t have computers.

Rather than official service partners, as they have now, the brand relied on seven sub-contractors covering the entire country.

These days, Rational employs more than 50 people in the UK, including 23 regional chefs, and can call on the support of 200 service engineers nationally.
