Skyscraper the location for bakery chain’s second City site

French artisan bakery and pâtisserie PAUL is set to open its second London restaurant in Tower 42, the iconic City skyscraper, this September.

Following the opening of the first Le Restaurant de PAUL on Covent Garden’s Bedford Street – part of a new brand extension last autumn – Tower 42 will be the second site in the company’s restaurant portfolio and will also house a bakery, hosting monthly bread-making masterclasses as well as the brand’s first destination wine bar.

Located on the ground level of the tower, the new 4,144 square-foot site will be the largest restaurant yet, with 93 covers inside and a further 40 outdoors.

Interiors by independent Parisian designers, Coorengel & Calvagrac and Panetude Group Architects will combine the contemporary, the comfortable and the traditional with subtle references to PAUL’s 125-year history from the use of materials like dark grey stone tiling seen in one of the first PAUL shops in 1920s France. Mirrored panels, muted lighting and splashes of vibrant emerald green, turquoise and ruby will surround a mix of 1950’s-style benches, armchairs and bistro-style seating.

Jean-Michel Orieux, CEO of PAUL UK, said: “PAUL has a really strong brand identity based on core family principles that symbolise authentic French tradition. We are excited about expanding our restaurant portfolio across London and look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to our PAUL Restaurant in Tower 42.”

With an average spend of £18 per head, Le Restaurant de PAUL Tower 42 will be offering breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea and generous sharing platters. In the bakery, PAUL’s signature selection of pâtisserie, viennoiserie, artisan breads, celebration cakes, gourmet salads and sandwiches will also be available with a range of hot and cold beverages.

Le Restaurant de PAUL at Tower 42 will be open from 6.30am to 11pm Monday to Friday and closed at weekends.

Since PAUL opened its first London PAUL flagship shop in Covent Garden 2000, more than 32 shops have followed, PAUL Marble Arch being the latest addition earlier this month. PAUL shops can be found across London in locations such as Marylebone, Regent Street, South Kensington, Hampstead, Canary Wharf, Richmond and Wimbledon, and further afield in Oxford and Newbury.
