The UK division of SSP Group, the travel sector-focused foodservice operator, has officially launched a raft of food and beverage offers at London’s Euston Station, including the expansion of its Mi Casa Burritos chain.
Three on-trend street food names will feature in an innovative new concept called Junction Urban Street Food, created as a result of a partnership between SSP UK and journalist, broadcaster and street food expert Richard Johnson of British Street Food.
The venture, which celebrates the best of Britain’s street food culture, introduces three independent street food brands — Big Apple Hot Dogs, The Rib Man and Beany Australia.
SSP UK worked closely with the owners of each of the brands in shaping and expanding the concept to meet the needs of the travelling consumer. With menus featuring seasonal and local produce, Junction Urban Street Food claims to offer the excitement and authenticity of street food in a convenient ‘grab and go’ format.
The street food offer is part of the wider £12.5 million redevelopment of Euston Station, which will create more space at concourse level and respond to the diverse needs of the 71 million people who use the station every year.
The development will provide 11,000 sq ft of food and beverage space including a redeveloped balcony level, and will allow station users to eat away from the hustle and bustle of the main station concourse. The project is part of Network Rail’s strategy to create stations that are destinations in their own right.
Simon Smith, CEO of SSP UK and Ireland, said: “We have had a long and successful relationship with Network Rail Property and we are delighted to be growing our association further. We are particularly excited about partnering with Richard Johnson and bringing these concepts to Euston Station. We believe that we’ve found three incredible street food operators and helped to bring them and their delicious offers to commuters at Euston Station.”
To complement the street food offer, SSP has also opened its highly successful Mexican brand Mi Casa Burritos. Since SSP launched Mi Casa Burritos at London’s Victoria station in February 2012, it has gone on to open four more outlets at Manchester Airport, Birmingham New Street, Waterloo and now Euston stations.
