British F&B operator SSP has reached an agreement to operate no fewer than 17 units in Bahrain International Airport’s new passenger terminal in a move that will bolster the international exposure of the brands it represents.
The units will feature a strong mix of key local and international food and beverage brands including Bahrain’s first Jamie’s Deli and Pizzeria from TV chef Jamie Oliver. The outlet will offer passengers freshly-prepared meals, including pizzas and deli-style dishes, in an all-day casual dining environment.
SSP will unveil the first TGI Fridays in an airport in the region and the first EAT restaurant in Gulf. They will be joined by an Illy Caffè, Burger King, KFC, Camden Food Co, Millie’s Cookies, Levito and Ritazza.
Meanwhile, the familiar British brand offering will be backed up by a roof-top terrace called Sama by Alto, a unit from Bahraini casual dining concept Lumee, an outlet from shawarma concept Ya! Salam and Indian restaurant Jaipur.
The new development is part of the airport’s £835m modernisation programme, which will see the creation of a new terminal. It will mean the size of the airport will expand to 11,600 square metres, and it will have the capacity to handle 14 million passengers once the new project is complete.

It is the first time the airport has conducted an external tender process to invite F&B proposals.
