10 London restaurants given unwanted ‘most disappointing cooking’ mantle

Oxo Tower

Oxo Tower has been voted the London restaurant with ‘most disappointing cooking’ for the second time in three years following a survey of diners for the latest edition of the Harden’s London Restaurants Guide.

Ratings and reviews in the newly-released guide and app are based on one of the UK’s most detailed annual polls of restaurant-goers, with some 7,500 people contributing 50,000 reports for the 2020 edition.

The company always publishes a list of restaurants that most disappoint on cooking and this Oxo Tower has picked up the accolade after being named in second place last year.

It was closely followed by the The Ivy and The Ivy Grills & Brasseries, which topped the list last year. It means the top three remain the same but have swapped positions.

Le Gavroche and Hide make up the top five restaurants that leave Harden’s reviewers underwhelmed, followed by Gordon Ramsay, Chiltermn Firehouse, Kerridge’s Bar & Grill, Scott’s and Union Street Café.

The ‘award’ for most overpriced restaurant, meanwhile, went to The River Cafe, which topped the list last year, too. Gordon Ramsay and Oxo Tower occupied second and third place respectively.

The London restaurant scene has witnessed near-record levels of closures over the past year. However, net openings are up 28% year-on-year.

110 restaurants closed their doors, but 174 opened, according to Harden’s.
