American QSR hits London as first kitchen is installed

Wing Zone, Finsbury Park

American fast food chain Wing Zone’s maiden UK site is up and running following the installation of a kitchen designed to ensure it can serve fast food, salads and sides at speed.

The launch site is a 32-cover restaurant based in London’s Finsbury Park and is expected to be the first of many that the company rolls out.

As revealed by FEJ back in October, Wing Zone believes it’s the right time to bring its 25-year-old concept to the UK after its success in the US, where it now has more than 100 units. It also has an increasing number of outlets in Panama, South America and Beijing.

Wing Zone UK – the master franchisee for the UK – brought in kitchen house RDA to design and install the facility.

Nick Bradley, RDA’s lead designer for both projects, said: “We began working with the team at Wing Zone UK earlier this year, when they were looking for a partner to provide a ‘turnkey’ service, which involved developing the Wing Zone concept, producing site-specific detailed designs, and managing the full installation of their store.

Prior to the site-specific design at Finsbury Park, Tyne and Wear-based RDA spent a lot of time looking at the existing Wing Zone branding and understand its kitchen needs.

“We liaised very closely with the team in the US to learn their operation and source a range of specific catering equipment to provide a well oiled, tried and tested operation,” said Bradley. “Some of the items were delivered from the US, and others were manufactured by our suppliers in the UK to bespoke US specifications.”
