Barbecue restaurant chain Grillstock is on the verge of opening a site in the centre of Leicester, its first restaurant in the Midlands.
The new American-style ‘smokehouse’ is due to open in June, creating around 45 jobs, according to the company.
Grillstock currently has sites in London, Bristol and Bath. The firm, which also stages music festivals, says that Leicester is the ideal choice for its newest grill.
Co-founder, Jon Finch, told the Leicester Mercury: “We’re happy to be opening in Leicester, a city which reminds us of our home in Bristol with its underground culture. We take big hunks of meat and smoke them fresh on-site, using our own rubs, sauces and woods.”
The expansion of the chain comes five years after the first Grillstock opened in Bristol.
The 110-cover restaurant in Leicester will open in the former premises of Pizza Express.
The pizza chain told the paper that it had closed the restaurant because it already has two other sites in Leicester.
