Iconic fish and chip shop brand Harry Ramsden is casting its net in search of multi-site franchise developers that share its appetite to open dozens of new sites across the UK.
The brand, which is now owned by the Boparan Restaurant Group, has recently carried out a programme to refresh the identity of its restaurants and improve its menu.
It is now bidding to build on this investment by expanding across the UK, with investment costs for a typical site starting at upwards of £300,000.
The British public spends more than £1.2 billion on fish and chips every year, making it the largest food and beverage sub sector in the UK. However, it has the least penetration of branded operators, meaning the opportunity for fast growth is huge.
Bosses at the firm said it is searching for operators that possess the “drive and experience” to grow the business.
Judd Williams, international development director at Boparan Restaurant Group, said: “Given the increasing importance consumers are placing on provenance, quality and taste when making their dining choices, and the growing popularity of convenience, we see this as the perfect time to expand the brand. Harry’s has just gone through an extensive refresh and rebrand, thus making it even more appealing to an ever-growing market. For experienced branded F&B multi-site operators we believe that Harry Ramsden’s is a highly compelling franchise opportunity.”
Harry Ramsden has a number of restaurant formats available, including quick service and assisted service models which drive higher unit profit through faster, more efficient service encouraging higher footfall especially during busier times.
It is specifically looking for multi-site franchisees and stipulates that all prospective franchisees must have the necessary funds and experience in place.
Typical investment cost ranges from around £300,000 to £450,000, including fit-out and upfront fees.
