Burger chain secures prime London real estate in time for Crossrail boom

Gourmet Burger Kitchen

Gourmet Burger Kitchen, which was last week sold to South Africa’s Famous Brands for £120m, has secured a 3,500 square foot site in London’s West End.

The 100-cover Berners Street branch is being completely refurbished by an in-house team and is due to open in late 2016.

It is located in a prime location close to the planned Crossrail station, opening in 2017. As well as Crossrail the area is undergoing major redevelopment such as The Plaza Shopping centre and Royal Mail Sorting Office.

Leisure property agency Shelley Sandzer acquired the site for GBK after it was briefed to find a busy space in central London.

“With the success of local redevelopments such as The Berners Tavern, combined with the substantial footfall from Oxford Street and nearby Soho, the dynamics of the location made it the perfect choice for us as a brand,” said COO Keith Bird.

The new GBK site will be adjacent to Thai operator, Patara and Nando’s, both brands that Shelley Sandzer has worked with previously in letting and rent review capacities.
