Harman’s Facilities Management, a family business based in East Yorkshire, has provided a new canteen catering service for Premdor, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of timber doors, following a competitive tender process.
The canteen will serve 400 staff based at Premdor’s headquarters in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
Erika Harman, managing director at Harman’s, said: “The new canteen looks beautiful, it’s modern and comfortable with a fabulous green and lime colour scheme. It’s a lovely, light environment for our catering staff to work in, and it’s clear that Premdor employees really appreciate it.”
Run by Erika and her husband Grant Harman, the business has been going almost two decades after Erika bought a mobile catering van after she was made redundant from her job as a commercial mortgage adviser following the birth of her first son Henry.
Hungry Henry’s was sited at Brough making just £8 a day at first and they then launched a second van at North Ferriby after Grant was made redundant. As the business grew they began to employ staff to assist them and were then approached by Carillion and invited to run a canteen on a construction site catering for 500 workers.
The couple now turn over in excess of £2m a year providing catering and cleaning services for some of the country’s biggest organisations and projects.
They have 80 employees on their payroll and believe the key to their success is the fact they’ve never lost touch with their ethos – which is based on providing a friendly, approachable and personal service to their clients.
Despite their business growing to several times its original size, Harman says she continues to take a hands-on approach to looking after their clients: “Grant and I oversee every contract. Customers can contact us directly whenever they have a question or issue and know it will be dealt with immediately. We treat every business we work with as if it was our own and care deeply about delivering an outstanding quality of service to each one.”
