Celltherm races to get hospital coldroom installed in ‘record time’

Celltherm coldroom, NHS Nightingale, Washington

A last minute call to Celltherm Coldrooms from Gateshead-based Cool Breeze Refrigeration and Air Conditioning came up trumps for a new NHS Nightingale hospital in Washington, Tyne and Wear.

The hospital is situated at the International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP). The newly-completed facility was originally built to support the development of the region’s manufacturing and it is hoped that the building will revert to its original plan after the risk has passed.

Dean Baardman, managing director of Cool Breeze, outlined an approach to him by the local NHS Trust a couple of weeks ago to provide bulk food cold storage facilities for the hospital.

“I called a number of coldroom suppliers and I was delighted to eventually run with Leicester-based Celltherm Coldrooms, which had coldrooms and refrigeration equipment in stock and was able to meet the strict terms of high quality, supply and installation.

“I contacted James Connolly from Celltherm, who lives in the north east, and within 24 hours he had carried out a site survey, provided a drawing and a quote, plus he had an installation plan in place within 2 hours of our meeting under strict social distancing rules.”

Mr Baardman analysed: “We’re delighted with the swift response and we would like to thank everyone involved including the installation engineers, Luke and Jay Racliffe, for their help in completing the installation in record time, whilst maintaining social distancing rules and the strict health and safety site conditions.

“The Celltherm chiller and freezer rooms supplied are fully camlocked and the refrigeration equipment is easily removable as it is planned that the systems will be relocated after the pandemic, enabling their continued use elsewhere within the local NHS Trust estate, which is a big bonus.”

Celltherm’s Mr Connolly added: “We were delighted to be able to assist Dean and the Cool Breeze team with providing our high quality German cold and freezer stores for this project.

“I must say it is testament to the organisational skills and determination of the NHS staff, the armed forces, local construction and key workers that a project of this magnitude can come together in such a very short time. Let’s hope that the hospital never reaches its fullest potential and we hope everyone is staying safe and well.”

Celltherm Coldrooms and Cool Breeze Air Conditioning and Refrigeration report they are operating their respective businesses whilst maintaining social distancing and adhering to Public Health England Guidelines at all times during the Covid-19 emergency lockdown.
