Lebanese and Eastern Mediterranean restaurant chain Comptoir Libanais is aiming to open 50 restaurants over the next five years after strong interest from institutions saw it raise £16m in a recent IPO.
“Our listing provides us with the platform to accelerate the growth of the business, allowing us to bring our fresh, healthy, Lebanese dining experience to many more people across the UK,” he says.
Chaker is wasting no time in getting the expansion plan underway: six new sites are planned to open over the next three months, including three new regional locations in Exeter, Bath and Leeds. Comptoir Libanais’ first in-store restaurant will also open in John Lewis’ flagship Oxford Street shop in October, exposing it to a new audience and further enhancing its profile.
The story of where it came from to get to where it is today is a remarkable one: the group was created by Tony Kitous, who arrived in Britain in 1988 with just £70 in his pocket and opened his first restaurant five years later after selling harissa and merguez sandwiches outside his local football club.
