Compass reveals it will recruit 1,500 apprentices by 2017

Contract caterer Compass Group UK & Ireland has announced plans to grow the number of apprentices it employs to 1,500 by the end of 2017.

The move reinforces its status as one of the UK’s top 100 apprenticeship employers. It has trained more than 3,000 apprentices during the last five years and currently recruits at a rate of 500 apprentices a year.

Compass provides apprenticeship training programmes in a range of areas including foodservice, business administration, professional cookery, chef leaderships and management. The addition of 1,000 apprentices will see new roles being provided across all sectors.

The apprenticeship programme is being managed by Melanie Hayes, resourcing and development director for Compass, who was recently appointed to a new Apprenticeship Delivery Board (ADB) by the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.

The ADB has been tasked with advising the government on how it can hit its target of three million apprenticeships starts by 2020.

Dennis Hogan, managing director for Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: “As one of the top apprenticeship employers in the country we are extremely passionate about delivering high-quality training and learning programmes for our apprentices and we are excited about broadening our apprenticeship programme across our broad portfolio of businesses.”
