Costa Coffee steps up search for UK sustainability chief

Eco Pod, Telford

Costa Coffee is recruiting for a Sustainability Lead to develop its sustainability strategy and guide the implementation programme across the UK and Ireland.

The move comes as head of environment, Oliver Rosevear, prepares to take on a new challenge elsewhere.

Mr Rosevear shared the vacancy on LinkedIn and admitted it felt “strange to promote your own role” after so long in the job.

“Costa is a fantastic company and I’d love someone who’s as passionate as me at driving sustainability to take over the helm in the UK,” he wrote. “I’ll be moving onto pastures new and a really exciting new opportunity which I’ll update everyone on soon.”

Mr Rosevear has previously revealed how improved engagement between his team and the group’s procurement department has changed the way the company goes about specifying new catering equipment.

Costa said it was looking for a candidate that will be able to lead the agenda on recommending business unit targets and ensure business activities deliver against these.

Excellent communication and influencing skills are critical for the role as it involves managing multiple internal stakeholders to ensure sustainability is given the right level of focus and engagement across the business.

The new Sustainability Lead will manage a prioritised programme of initiatives across a variety of working groups to deliver on defined priority projects – including community, circular economy and climate

They will also be responsible for the management and reduction of the environmental impact across all platforms and deliver key projects, particularly the UK reuse and recycling programme and sustainable packaging programme.
