It probably wasn’t expecting to celebrate a milestone anniversary in such inauspicious economic circumstances but Crystaltech Services will be marking 40 years of trading this month.
Founder and managing director Derek Maher first began fixing warewashing machines in local pubs and restaurants as a temporary position following a career as a metallurgist and environmental engineer.
In 1980, Mr Maher and his wife Maxine founded Crystaltech, running the business from their garage as the firm’s only employees.
Four decades on and the company regards itself as the largest independent provider specialising in the installation and maintenance of all makes and models of warewashing machine across the UK.
“Hard work plays a key role in the longevity and success of this business but also managing our team effectively and understanding what our customers want and need,” said Mr Maher, who is renowned for being a pioneer in attaining superior glass and dishwasher machine results in the catering and pub industry.
Over the years he has worked closely with many leading pub companies to achieve award-winning clean glass results throughout their estates.
Through investing in innovative technology and high levels of training, he has enabled his team of more than 60 engineers to be able to solve the most obscure warewashing problems.
Continual investment in equipment and stocks too has ensured that the company achieves a high first-time fix rate with a significantly reduced need for second visits.
The business carries out more than 4,000 service visits per month.
