Editor’s welcome: Selecting the 2018 Power List

Chef in kitchen cutting vegetables

Welcome to the 2018 FEJ Power List — our annual celebration of the movers and shakers in the UK foodservice industry.

This is the fourth year that we have published this much-anticipated feature and, once again, it contains a set of individuals that have never appeared in it before.

It is certainly an interesting time for the UK foodservice scene, with the market facing a level of scrutiny it has previously never had to endure.

The good news is that while some notable names have had to consolidate their restaurant estates this year, there are still plenty of operators out there that are expanding and diversifying.

The impact of delivery on the foodservice scene cannot be disputed and this, too, is having a major effect on operators, not least in terms of the way they implement and manage kitchen processes.

Those that have a firm eye on kitchen efficiency, coupled with a flexible approach to menu development, appear to be showing the greatest resilience and there are many examples of this among the companies and individuals featured over the coming pages.

Last year in this report we referenced the need for speed, efficiency and consistency when it comes to the kitchen equipment specified by the leading players. 12 months on, there is nothing to suggest this has changed.

Selecting the individuals and companies that make up the Power List is never an easy task, but we based our choices around the nominations we received from the market, input from suppliers and editorial coverage within FEJ and FoodserviceEquipmentJournal.com, paying attention to examples of innovation and growth.

From the CEOs and managing directors that are steering their companies to success to the food development directors and executive chefs working tirelessly to create winning menus and kitchen templates, the 2018 Power List shines a light on those that are inspiring their businesses to new heights in a challenging and competitive environment.
