E&R Moffat reaps rewards from Scottish Enterprise partnership

E&R Moffat Vgen trolleys

Economic development agency Scottish Enterprise has teamed up with Scottish manufacturer E&R Moffat to bring a new range of Vgen trolleys to the market.

The agency provided vital support during a lengthy consultation undertaken by the manufacturer, helping to fund the two-year research and development process.

The design process for the trolleys was started when E&R Moffat identified a gap in the market for a high-quality food delivery trolley for the NHS and social care market, and the final design is a direct result of the manufacturer’s detailed market research.

The trolleys are compatible with cook-serve, cook-chill and cook-freeze systems, with features including a multi-zone oven that can hold different foods at different temperatures in one cabinet, refrigeration units that combine finless condenser technology, the latest high-performance insulation and eco-friendly, thermally efficient R290 refrigerant.

Sean Donald, Scottish Enterprise’s account manager, said: “Supporting Scottish manufacturers is a key part of our economic strategy, we help them develop their businesses by encouraging investment in R&D and helping them effectively develop new markets, both domestically and abroad.

He continued: “The market for innovative food trolleys is growing. Moffat is ideally placed to capitalise on this, with its years of expertise. Being able to help this fantastic Scottish company with this project was very rewarding, both from a technical standpoint and in terms of sustaining and further growing its business.”

Meanwhile, Donald Reid, E&R Moffat’s sales manager, said of the partnership: “Scottish Enterprise were great to work with. The support they provided helped us develop the new trolley and ensured it met all the criteria we had identified, and we found their backing throughout the process incredibly valuable, not only from a financial standpoint but also the depth of experience they were able to bring to bear.”

He concluded: “The positive reaction of the market to the Vgen is probably the best proof we could offer of the effectiveness of the partnership!”

E & R Moffat is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of quality foodservice equipment, designing and manufacturing in-house.  Based in Bonnybridge, Scotland, the company manufactures standard and bespoke servery, regeneration and storage equipment and runs a full nationwide after-sales service.
