Rational is preparing to launch a smartphone app that will give chefs instant access to the information they need without having to step outside the kitchen.
The dedicated training app, which the manufacturer has been developing over the last three months, will put recipes, operational information and cooking advice in the palm of chefs’ hands.
Rational has produced a series of video-based ‘how to’ guides so that chefs can remotely access instructions on maximising the different functionalities of its combi ovens, such as using a smokebox to produce smoked salmon, for example.
Simon Lohse, managing director of Rational UK, said the app will give users of its equipment immediate access to the details they need.
“Before the chefs would have had to pick up the phone and call someone on ChefLine or go onto the website and find the video there. This will now put the information they need in their hands.”
The app will be available on mainstream smartphone platforms, including Android and Apple, and should be ready for download by the first quarter of next year, if not sooner, Mr Lohse said.
“We have done a lot of filming and development over recent months and we will be looking to add to the video content we have created moving forward,” he explained.
The development of the app is an initiative led by the UK, which remains one of Rational’s largest international subsidiaries with sales of £50m a year, but Mr Lohse said there was no reason why other markets could not follow suit.
The creation of the app follows the recent roll-out of ConnectedCooking 2.0, which brings networked technology to operators using Rational and Frima cooking equipment.
At the launch of Rational’s new Centre of Excellence training facility in Luton last week, Mr Lohse revealed that the first adopters of the platform had now begun rolling it out in the UK.
