EXCLUSIVE: Scott Duncan to take over as new managing director of Unox UK

Scott Duncan, managing director

Carpigiani sales director Scott Duncan is set to become the new managing director of Unox UK, it can be revealed.

Mr Duncan will officially take over the role from Gary Nunn – who is retiring from the industry after his long association with the combi oven maker – on Tuesday 4 May.

Mr Duncan leaves Carpigiani UK after seven years, having previously worked in key sales and business development roles at Servequip and Jestic Foodservice Solutions.

He brings nearly 20 years of foodservice equipment industry experience to the role, having been instrumental in the continued growth of Carpigiani, which more than doubled the value of its UK business between 2014 and 2020.

Mr Duncan said this morning: “I’ve been very impressed by the approach that Unox is taking to the foodservice equipment sector, placing technology, connectivity and innovation at the heart of everything they do. It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity for me.

“I have only ever worked with manufacturers that delivered a real premium product and were seen as best in class – and I have no hesitation that Unox sits right in that space.

“Working with large foodservice chains, regional chains and independents in recent years, I’ve heard many customers talking about the quality of Unox products, along with the brilliant service and after sales they had experienced. In my previous role we actually had Unox ovens in our London development kitchen so I had already seen the quality of the products for myself too.”

The appointment represents a significant moment in Unox’s UK history given Mr Nunn’s long tenure at the brand and his instrumental role in establishing and developing its presence across the restaurant, retail and bakery sectors.

He will retire from his full-time role after steering the UK business, along with his wife Lisa, through a MBO by the global Unox organisation in Italy last year.

Mr Duncan acknowledged the work carried out by his predecessor in building the Unox brand in the UK.

“I must credit the fantastic job that Gary and Lisa have done in recent years to get the business in the strong position it is today. I can’t wait to get started and I see myself being here for a very long time,” he said.

Unox supplies a wide range of ovens and kitchen equipment including the ChefTop range of compact, countertop and ‘Big’ combi ovens, BakerTop range of pastry ovens for bakers and the BakerluxShop.Pro and BakerluxSpeed.Pro, for bakery operations in commercial settings including retail.

It also offers the Evereo hot-holding unit to maintain food safely at the temperature at which it is served and eaten.

Mr Duncan said he can’t wait to get stuck into the new role: “I spoke with Gary and the global management team and it was very obvious from early on that the next few years for Unox are important ones as the company aims to implement an aggressive five-year growth plan. That challenge is a huge attraction to me and I’m looking forward to joining a fast-moving company which combines innovative products and a dedicated team of talented people, backed by continued investment from the global business.”
