New guidance comes into force today requiring people to wear face masks when entering shops – including those buying food and drink to take away from cafes and outlets.
Customers that fail to wear a face covering while ordering from a takeaway establishment risk a fine of up to £100.
Customers dining on site are exempt from wearing face masks. Those in premise where they are able to sit down and consume food or drink they have bought can remove their face covering in order to eat and drink on site.
Although shop owners and retailers have been preparing for the rule change for several weeks, clarity in terms of where the restaurant and food industry fits into the regulations only came this week.
Given the lack of time to properly brief staff, prepare signage and take steps to encourage compliance, trade body UKHospitality has published a summary on face coverings to provide operators with everything they need to know.
