Foster’s 24-hour delivery service inspired by research detailing operator distress

A free next day delivery service launched by Foster Refrigerator was inspired by the significant level of disruption that caterers said they face when their refrigeration is out of order.

Foster unveiled the special SOS service last month, giving customers the opportunity to get hold of its top-selling fridge lines and product from sister company Gamko in less than 24 hours when ordered before 12.30pm. It says customers could normally expect to pay upwards of £125 for that service based on industry standard charges.

European head of marketing, Nick Bamber, says the company decided to introduce the initiative after garnering feedback from the market.

“We’re always looking for ways to help our customers and following extensive industry research we recently carried out, one of the main factors that led us to launching the free next day delivery service was seeing the significant level of disruption caused for caterers when a fridge was out of order.

“Breakdowns are impossible to predict, which means caterers aren’t able to plan for them. Unfortunately, if a fridge breaks down, food will spoil, and the caterer will have to replace all lost produce which can be costly. Our next day delivery service is designed to help save on stress.”

Mr Bamber said that given online ordering and next day delivery is the norm in the consumer world, it’s only natural that businesses expect products to be delivered quickly in all situations, too.

“Our customers are increasingly coming to us looking for cost-effective, environmentally-friendly cooling solutions, so cost inevitably played a part in us looking at how we could add value,” he said. “When people buy a Foster or Gamko product, they not only expect a differentiated product, but also a differentiated level of service. In this instance, an increase in cost for us is simply a trade off with a better customer experience, which is ultimately the most important thing to us.”

Meanwhile, Foster also announced this week that its range of Slimline cabinets are now available on energy efficient R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant as standard.

The updated Slimline range also has its award winning +stayclear condenser fitted as standard. It cuts the amount of time operators need to spend maintaining their fridge or freezer and saves money by reducing the chance of breakdown.

The inside of the cabinet has been remodelled to improve airflow and increase cooling efficiency with new rear air ducts.
