Franchisee nets £1m funding package to open fourth McDonald’s site

Compassco McDonald’s Maylands Gateway Retail Park, Hemel Hempstead

A McDonald’s franchise in Hertfordshire has opened its fourth site at the Maylands Gateway Retail Park in Hemel Hempstead following a £1.09m funding package from HSBC UK.

Owned and managed by Alan Butchers since its inception in 2012, Compassco operates three other McDonald’s restaurants in Apsley, Bourne End and Jarman Fields Leisure Park – employing over 400 people in the area.

The restaurant spans two floors and includes top-of-the-range kitchen and seating facilities along with eight self-service tills, as well as offering table service.

The 160-seater restaurant also features phone charging ports and eight tablets to keep customers entertained whilst they wait for their orders.

Russel Merchant, HSBC UK’s area director for Business Banking in East London, said: “Alan is a successful entrepreneur with an impressive portfolio of restaurants across Hemel Hempstead. Having worked with him and his company for over five years, we were more than happy to support his plans for a new site, which will not only benefit the local economy of Hertfordshire but also supports the business’ longer-term expansion plans.”

Mr Butchers said the “tailored funding package and ongoing professional advice” it had received was invaluable.

The new Maylands Gateway Retail Park restaurant was opened with a ribbon-cut by local MP Sir Mike Penning and is expected to bring up to 100 jobs to the town.
