Fred Smith is the architect behind the mouth-watering burgers that emerge from Byron’s kitchens and his creations are poised to reach a much larger audience following news that the burger chain is gearing up for a new round of expansion.
That means plenty of new kitchen builds in the pipeline as it sets about putting the infrastructure in place to stay at the summit of the premium burger category.
Fred travels the world in search of the best burgers but the real meaty work takes place at the rear of Byron’s Haymarket restaurant, where he has his own equipment and space to devise the dishes he believes will be the next big menu winner.
In a special blog on his day job, food delivery specialist Deliveroo asked Fred to pick the burger that he is most proud of. He went for the the chilli burger.
“It’s the first special I created for Byron and it’s much, much harder to do something that’s really brilliant and simple,” he says. Fred is even passing on some of his inside knowledge to customers by teaming up with Byron founder, Tom Byng, to release a special guide called ‘Byron: The Cookbook’.
