GBK finally gets green light for Yorkshire project it’s been craving

Gourmet Burger Kitchen has secured a site at Sheffield’s Meadowhall and admitted it has been seeking to open a restaurant at the venue for some time.

The chain will open a new 2,500 sq ft restaurant on the upper level of the mall alongside leading brands like Giraffe, TGI Fridays and Carluccio’s. It will be able to cater for 100 covers when it begins trading in November.

Meadowhall has undergone a £60m development over the past year, with shoppers able to select from dozens of brands located over two floors. Research carried out by developer British Land suggests that 64% of visitors to the retail destination choose to have something to eat or drink.

Keith Bird, COO for GBK, said that the chain is delighted to finally get hold of a unit at Meadowhall to expand its presence in Yorkshire.

“We have been looking to secure a site in Meadowhall for some time and with so much momentum behind the refurbishment project, now seemed like the perfect moment to take space there. The new restaurant will help to bring Gourmet Burger Kitchen to a much bigger local audience and is a very exciting next step for us.”

GBK isn’t the only new foodservice tenant at Meadowhall. Local operator, Let’s Sushi, will take a 500 sq ft unit on the lower level opposite Barburrito and in the heart of the family food hall, which includes 1,200 communal seats.

The restaurant will be the brand’s second site in the city and is set to open before Christmas offering fresh sushi and bento boxes alongside soups and other hot dishes.
