German healthy eating chain Salaid is expanding into the UK market under the name Choppaluna, it has been reported.
The chain, owned by Hero Brands, is set to open in Bloomsbury, London in October, with this expected to be the first of many UK branches of the salad concept.
There are already plans in place for a further 12 stores, while there are hopes that the chain will operate 60 UK stores in five years and 300 in 10 years.
The stores will be spread across the UK, with Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh all earmarked as future locations.
The chain, which originated in Berlin, specialises in healthy lunches, serving a range of options including salads, smoothie bowls and wraps.
Nikras Agha, the chain’s founder, said: “We came up with idea in 2015 after I saw chopped salad restaurants in the US with my wife and thought it would work in Germany.
“The business has gone from strength to strength, so expanding it in the UK was the next logical step.
“Obviously, a key part of our product is that it is healthy, but it has to taste great as well. People won’t feel like they are being short-changed by having one of our salads.”
