Premium burger restaurant, Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) has expanded with four new sites planned in Glasgow, Watford, Swindon and Bromley, taking the brand’s UK portfolio up to a total of 60.

The development is part of a wider drive to open 30 restaurants in the next three years, increasing the portfolio to almost 100 by 2018. In addition to the new locations, GBK has invested more than £3m refurbishing its restaurants as part of an ongoing renovation programme.

The new-look restaurants will all include open kitchens based in the centre of the building, and will undergo an upgrade of certain equipment to help make the cooking process quicker and simpler.

Alasdair Murdoch, CEO of Gourmet Burger Kitchen told FEJ: “In terms of layout in the new restaurants, we tend to have a run of our equipment so the kitchens are all very visible to our customers; fundamentally our kitchens are now at the heart of our restaurants.”

He added: “The enhancements have been designed around trying to make it better for the customers and one of the ways to do that is to make it operationally simple.”
