Greggs are looking at introducing further vegan lines to its stores following the huge success of the vegan sausage roll.
The company announced last month that the introduction of the vegan product, introduced earlier this year, had seen its first half profits rise by an enormous 58%, and now it is looking at developing more options.
Although little has been given away as to exactly what products we can expect, the firm’s chief executive, Roger Whiteside, has spoken of vegan doughnuts and vegan milk being introduced to stores and it is believed that work is being done to find a vegan recipe for most of the chain’s popular sellers.
Speaking to LBC about the possibility of more vegan products, Whiteside said: “We are working away to see if we can come up with a version of all our bestselling lines because people want vegan options.
“If we can produce something that tastes just as good as the meat version, then that will sell very successfully. That’s what’s been shown with the vegan sausage roll.”
Whiteside has also claimed that the product has had an impact beyond simply sales figures – helping to change the image of the brand into a modern food-to-go operator.
