HOST opens its doors to an industry that has regained its appetite

HOST Milan 2021

The HOST trade show has found itself fortunately timed, as its 2019 edition took place a few months before the coronavirus crisis unfolded, and now its 2021 exhibition will happen just as countries are opening themselves up after extensive vaccination programmes.

It may be that many show visitors have had to jump through extra administrative hoops to be able to travel to Italy, but what awaits them is guaranteed to impress, as HOST remains the place to check out the latest and most innovative foodservice equipment and solutions from around the globe.

The event returns to Milan’s Fieramilano on 22-26 October, though with some changes. As agro-food show, Tuttofood, has been folded into the exhibition following its postponement from May, this will occupy five of the venue’s 16 halls this time.

But the other 11 pavilions will once again showcase foodservice technology including the Internet of Things, energy saving, green awareness, the circular economy, security and hygiene, to assist foodservice sites with rethinking formats and spaces, and adopting new materials and new approaches.

The show is due to welcome around 1,100 exhibitors from 40 different countries (including markets such as Germany, France, Spain, USA, Portugal, Holland, Greece and the UK), with 40% coming from outside Italy.

One of the key themes of the show will be the ‘next normal’, which will focus on the priority that companies in the sector are giving to safety and quality. Over the next few years, customers are expected to direct their choices towards establishments that gain trust not only because of their products, but also because of the technologies they have adopted to keep their spaces ‘safe’.

The Smart Label Host Innovation Award, the competition open to all ‘innovative’ companies held in collaboration with POLI.Design, Consortium of the Milan Politechnical University, and under the patronage of ADI — the Italian Industrial Design Association — will also return to the Rho Fiera pavilions.

In the last three editions of the initiative, over 150 awards and 20 special recognitions have been presented, and this year’s award has a single objective: to assess the level of innovation and the most intelligent solutions of the competing companies.

The Smart Label will be judged by a jury of seven professional university lecturers and experts in the field of hospitality design and energy saving.

From contests to show cooking, from in-depth seminars to training sessions, the 2021 edition of HOST will feature a menu of over 800 events covering all the macro-areas of the exhibition.

This includes Design Talks, in collaboration with, looking at future trends in the hospitality sector.
